Olivié Ponce is a Brooklyn-based Mexican artist. Master of traditional painting techniques, over the course of fifteen years Ponce has developed #ExtraEstetica, a project supported by FONCA (National Fund for Culture and the Arts, Mexico) exploring urban aesthetics by way of painting. Originating in Mexico City, the series gathered urban experiences around the world, ultimately reaching Brooklyn. Interspersed with #ExtraEstetica, the artist has also been developing a painting series articulating the relationship between fine art techniques and vernacular Spanish vocabulary, exploring the codified social ambiguity of terms such as ‘perra’ and ‘bruja’. His work has been featured in exhibitions and collections across Mexico and the U.S. ponce is also a scenic artist at Local USA 829 in New York.
